Does this title sound bragy? I didn’t mean for it to sound bragy. I wanted it to sound fabulous.
After having my first daughter, I attempted to go back to work. I worked a few shifts, was overwhelmed with emotion of leaving my daughter and continue sleep deprivation. I got pregnant with my second, and had a reoccurred of Hyperemesis Gravidium. For those of you who do not know, this basically means you barf everything (including water). I lost more weight with my second than my first pregnancy (30lbs), but I also with the help of Zofran ate normally after my first trimester and gained back 25lb.
Needless to say, I didn’t work. So, after my maternity leave from my second daughter I went back to work again. I switched departments in hopes it would revive my love of nursing. But, this was not the issue. I love nursing, I love being a nurse. At this time in my life, being away from my 1 and 3 year old for 14+ hours a day didn’t make sense.
I am terrible at admitting I am not physically or emotionally able to do something. But, working a 12 hour night shift, driving an hour each way, and sleeping only a few hours the afternoon after was draining me. My sleep bank was depleted. I was a mess.
My husband, who can tell when I am over tired, encouraged me to stop . I switched to a casual nurse and took off 8 months.
I was at the point I was debating returning (albeit dreading the long shifts) When I came across VIPKID. I applied and a week later was hired. My first month was Chinese new year, I didn’t make much, but it was enough to inspire me to continue.
The next month, I made about 3/4 of what I was making as a nurse part time. This month, I have surpassed was I was making as a part time RN.
This is not a gimmick, you are “working” I work about 20 hours a week. But, I don’t leave my house, I am not buying take out or coffee at work, I have not driving each way, I am not getting hit up for donations for people I don’t know (which saves me a lot). I also work at most, about 4 hours a day (usually 3).
This does require a Bachelors degree. I also am working my way through TESOL certificate (though not a requirement) But, for Moms who want to be home and present with there kids. I cannot imagine it getting much better than this.
